Probably attributed the most as the bassist for Deep Purple Mark IV line-up, guitarist/songwriter Glenn Hughes started his career as a bassist and vocalist with British hard rockers Trapeeze in the late 60's.
Many would agree that his early British Hard Rock and American R&B and Soul influence on Deep Purple prompt the exit of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Hughes however co-released 3 of Deep Purple's classics, Burn, Strombringer and Come Taste The Band.
A very creative musician for his era, Glenn Hughes released his first solo album Play Me Out in 1977 together with former Pat Travers guitarist Pat Thrall to form Hughes/Thrall.
Hughes worked with supergroup Phenomena and Aina before joining as lead singer for Black Sabbath's Seventh Star. After the release of that album, Hughes joined techno/house group The KLF. He returned to produce more solo albums such as Blues, From Now On, Feel, Addiction, The Way It Is, Return To Crystal Karma, Building The Machine, Songs In The Key Of Rock, Soul Mover and Music For The Divine.
The Hughes/Turner Project's Songs In The Key Of Rock and Soul Mover was a successful effort with former Deep Purple's Joe Lynn Turner and Red Hot Chili Pepper's Chad Smith.
Hughes continues with Smith for his latest solo release First Underground Nuclear Kitchen.
Glenn Hughes... the definite case study for funk rockers!
