"Let There Be Rock"
What comes into ones mind when they are asked to definite rock music. It's definitely the infectious riffs, screeching lead guitars, hard-hitting drums and virtuous bass guitars.
But what exactly or the first impression that pops up when it comes to AC/DC.
By all means it's the riffs of Angus Young and his Gibson SG, the signature sound of the band.
Who is this Angus Young and AC/DC anyway? We have been mislead I suppose by the media that the "biggest" Aussie Rock Band is INXS. Without doubt, INXS is a "big" band but AC/DC is "bigger" and in fact the "biggest" rock band to emerge from Australia compared to the former. Angus is the guy who runs around the stage with a guitar dressed in a school uniform. He was only fifteen when he joined AC/DC. Angus' sister suggested that he remain in his uniform, thus becoming the visual trademark of the band.
Angus' often portrays a hyperactive showmanship approach to guitars.
His style of riffs is refereed to as 'Mammoth Power Chord Roar."
AC/DC's other notable character was chauffeur turned vocalist, Bon Scott who's socially maladjusted behavioral patterns has reputed the band as brutes.
Scott is also described by various media sources as possessing larynx-shredding vocals.
What might AC/DC stand for, in case some of you may wonder. Speculations were Anti Christ/Devil Child or After Christ/Devil Comes. In reality. the logo which resembles the electricity sign suggests that AC/DC might stand for Alternate Current/Default Current.
Let's take a brief look into the band and it's audio biography. AC/DC were formed in 1973 in Australia by older brother of Angus, Malcolm Young. The original line-up included Dave Evans on vocals, Phil Rudd on drums, Mark Evans on bass, Angus Young on lead guitars and Malcolm Young on rhythm guitars. George Young (the eldest of Malcolm and Angus) helped produce some of their early materials.
The band toured the country, playing gigs. Dave Evans was later replaced by Bon Scott when the former refused to go on stage. Little did they knew that this would be the start to their glorious heights. They released their debut in 1974 titled High Voltage and T.N.T in 1975 followed by Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap before Mark Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams.
1977's Let There Be Rock topped the US charts and the release of Powerage renowned AC/DC as an International group. By know the group had expanded further audience thanks to their 1978's live show You Want Blood You've Got It. What rocked the band to further super stardom was on the release of Highway To Hell in 1979 which hit 17 in the US, and 8 in the UK charts becoming the band's first million seller.
Like most rock band, tragedy struck AC/DC. Bon Scott was found dead on February 20 1980.Reports showed that he had "drunk himself to death."
AC/DC had made the right replacement which later brought them to even greater heights. The album Back In Black which was the debut for Scott's replacer Brian Johnson was the band's biggest ever, selling over ten million copies in the US alone.
The following years had AC/DC as one of the largest rock bands in the world with For Those About To Rock We Salute You topping the US charts. Phil Rudd left the band in 1982 to be replaced by Simon Wright. 1983's Flick Of A Switch was commercially a failure until 1990's The Razor's Edge with the hit "Thunderstruck."
AC/DC maintained their status as Top International Concert band as they had been in the late 70's and early 80's. The most positively reviewed Ballbreaker was released in 1995 which placed itself at number four in the US charts. 2000's Stiff Upper Lip was a similar effort and gained similar results.
The group signed a multi-album deal with Sony the following year that resulted in a sheer number of reissues and DVDs. They returned to the studio in 2008 for Black Ice, an all-new collection of songs that was followed by the group's first world tour since 2001. Two years later, the band's music was featured heavily in the action movie Iron Man 2.

Glenn Hughes - A Singer's Singer
Probably attributed the most as the bassist for Deep Purple Mark IV line-up, guitarist/songwriter Glenn Hughes started his career as a bassist and vocalist with British hard rockers Trapeeze in the late 60's.
Many would agree that his early British Hard Rock and American R&B and Soul influence on Deep Purple prompt the exit of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Hughes however co-released 3 of Deep Purple's classics, Burn, Strombringer and Come Taste The Band.
A very creative musician for his era, Glenn Hughes released his first solo album Play Me Out in 1977 together with former Pat Travers guitarist Pat Thrall to form Hughes/Thrall.
Hughes worked with supergroup Phenomena and Aina before joining as lead singer for Black Sabbath's Seventh Star. After the release of that album, Hughes joined techno/house group The KLF. He returned to produce more solo albums such as Blues, From Now On, Feel, Addiction, The Way It Is, Return To Crystal Karma, Building The Machine, Songs In The Key Of Rock, Soul Mover and Music For The Divine.
The Hughes/Turner Project's Songs In The Key Of Rock and Soul Mover was a successful effort with former Deep Purple's Joe Lynn Turner and Red Hot Chili Pepper's Chad Smith.
Hughes continues with Smith for his latest solo release First Underground Nuclear Kitchen.
Glenn Hughes... the definite case study for funk rockers!

Blood Sugar Sex Magik - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Widely considered to be their best studio release. The 17 track fifith release employs a different set of riffs compared to their preceding album "Mother's Milk." John Frusciante's guitar is seemingly less noisier, allocating space for different layers of fine lines. Lyrically, Anthony Kiedis, as ever, incorporates sexual innuendos and references to drugs and death as well as themes of lust and exuberance, best seen in the 'infectiously funky singles' "Give It Away," "Suck My Kiss" and the title track"Blood Sugar Sex Magik." The album also showcased the band's effort in acoustic balladry, "I Could Have Lied," "Under The Bridge" and "Breaking The Girl." "My Lovely Man" is an ode to Hillel Slovak.
The album marked the band's popularity and critical acclimation, bringing them to the mainstream arena. It sold over thirteen million copies and peaked at number three in Billboard 200.
1. "The Power of Equality" – 4:03
2. "If You Have to Ask" – 3:37

Michael Jackson's Guitarists: It's About Damn Time We Show Them Some Respect!!!
"Slash, you're amazing... you're awesome!"
- Michael Jackson -
Whether or not you were a fan of the self-proclaimed "King of Pop", you can't dismiss Michael Jackson's ability to do things right. Even on his earliest recordings, Jackson's albums featured the best musicians money could buy. Although the album credits on even his last releases still read like a who's who of top session musicians, Jackson's philosophy of choosing guitarists to work with changed post-Thriller. More specifically, Jackson's approach became: identify the most popular guitarists on the face of the planet, and hire them to play on your record.

Jackson's 1979 release Off the Wall, featuring studio pro guitarists like Larry Carlton and Phil Upchurch, was the album which introduced Jackson to the world as a solo artist. That album marked the last recording Jackson would make with more obscure musicians. By the time Jackson released the landmark Thriller in 1982, his star-seeking approach to choosing guitarists was firmly in place. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen, a musician who had turned the rock world on it's collective ear, appeared on the recording, contributing a stunning solo on the song "Beat It".
It was a full five years before Jackson, a perfectionist in the extreme, managed to release his next album, 1987's Bad. Amidst the usual cast of studio musicians (including veteran Eric Gale) was guitarist Billy Idol's guitarist Steve Stevens. Thanks to Stevens' work on Idol's 1986 success Whiplash Smile, the guitarist could be found on the cover of almost every guitar magazine that year. Listen for Stevens' contributions to the Jackson hit "Smooth Criminal".

True to form, it was another five years before Jackson released his next album, 1992's Dangerous. For this release, Jackson decided on Guns n' Roses guitarist Slash (a move that left a lot of GNR fans scratching their heads). You can hear Slash wailing on "Black or White" and "Give it to Me".

The almost decade long stretch between Dangerous and 2001's Invincible has been well-documented, and needs no further analysis here. On a musical level, Jackson struggled in the studio for much of that time, trying to find a sound that would push him back to the forefront of the pop music world. While Invincible clearly failed in this regard, it did feature some nice contributions from Carlos Santana, who added a guitar and whistle solo to the latin-tinged "Whatever Happens".

Invincible proved to be Jackson's last attempt to live up to his self-appointed status as the "King of Pop". And, although he never managed to recapture the magic of Thriller, guitarists should still be able find something to appreciate in his later records.

Since the final Michael Jackson "This Is It" rehearsal videos have been released, people have been talking about the female guitarist featured alongside Jackson. Her name is Orianthi Panagaris, and she's barely 24 years old.
